Nevada County Reads 2025: Author Talk with Jeff Vandermeer In-Person

As part of the yearly Nevada County Reads celebration, Nevada County Library will be inviting award-winning author Jeff VanderMeer to give a free author talk at the Nevada County Sierra College Campus on Saturday, April 26th. The event will take place from 6pm to 7:30pm in the Multipurpose Auditorium. The Nevada County Sierra College Campus is located at 250 Sierra College Dr., Grass Valley, CA 95945.

Annihilation is a captivating work of speculative fiction that blends elements of science fiction with environmental and psychological exploration. In the novel, an all-female expedition embarks on a journey into Area X, a mysterious landscape where nature and perception are transformed in unexpected ways. Through immersive and thought-provoking prose, VanderMeer invites readers to explore themes of change, identity, and the complex relationship between humanity and the natural world. Annihilation won both the Nebula and Shirley Jackson award for Best Novel in 2014.

VanderMeer has been called "one of the most remarkable practitioners of the literary fantastic in America today." The library is excited to share this high-profile author with the community. VanderMeer has been nominated for the World Fantasy Award 14 times. He has also been a finalist for the Hugo Award, Bram Stoker Award, International Horror Guild Award, Philip K. Dick Award, and many others. The conversation between Jeff VanderMeer and County Librarian Nick Wilczek is not something you'll want to miss!
